Underground (1995)

In the history of mankind, never before have idiots had so great a voice. When it comes to the art of film, I am one such idiot. I also have an excellent internet connection, and the arrogance to create a blog. Sue me. The following series is a layman’s journey through the 250 greatest films…as voted on by other idiots on the internet. Go figure. Read the rest of this entry »

Before Sunrise (1995)

In the history of mankind, never before have idiots had so great a voice. When it comes to the art of film, I am one such idiot. I also have an excellent internet connection, and the arrogance to create a blog. Sue me. The following series is a layman’s journey through the 250 greatest films…as voted on by other idiots on the internet. Go figure.

NOTE: The last two or three movies at the bottom of the Top 250 seem to be changing fairly frequently. When I watched these yesterday, Before Sunset held the 249th spot. Now, it’s been bumped off by The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Underground. I swear to Christ I’m going to make it far enough up this list, so that I never have to face this problem again. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

Go figure.

NOTE: As of the afternoon of January 30th, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance had been replaced by Underground. I know, I know. I’ll get around to it. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been a few days since this was posted on Grantland, but for anyone who is even remotely into basketball should take a look at Zach Lowe’s piece on Anthony “The Brow” Davis. It’s engaging, it’s supported by pretty great analytics, and it’s probably some form of black magic because Zach Lowe is divining the future through some sort of scrying glass.

The 2014 iteration of Against Me!

As a punk rock fan, it’s not often that I get to see truly prolific bands of that genre play in Columbia. Which is why it was so much of a treat to have long-running (and legendary! Can we call Against Me! legendary now?) punk rock outfit Against Me! at the Blue Note on Monday night, in support of their new album Transgender Dysphoria Blues. Read the rest of this entry »

The amalgamation of a father’s enthusiasm, Dikembe Mutombo, and tennis elbow.

The Bulls beat the Heat in one of the grittiest performances you will ever seen in basketball on Sunday. Man, was that fun to watch. Read the rest of this entry »

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I was getting through the first season of this show. Joss Whedon’s acclaimed, pre-Firefly show, airing on the WB/UPN seemed like just a monster-of-the-week, horror-comedy, wrapped around a coming-of-age story. But, as I’m halfway through season 6 at this point, let me just say: boy was I wrong. And I’ve never been more glad to admit that.

Once More, With Feeling

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

So, this post is kinda not safe for work. You know, if your workplace has any sort of rules against language, racial slurs, and vivid descriptions of lewd sexual acts. And if your employer doesn’t have such sanctions, where the hell do you work, anyway?
